Ryedale Autism Group, Talk

Brief description of event: Talk to parents group at CDC, monthly group with speakers. The group was small, first one after the Christmas break, but some of professionals attached to the CDC stayed for the morning or part of morning. One mum attending for the first time, had received her child's diagnosis just before Christmas and she was desperate for information, advice about what helps, who else can help. Another mum had 14 year old with High Functioning Autism and quite severe levels of anxiety and sensory issues and had never applied for DLA as she felt would not be accepted, so persuaded to try. Also advised re CTC and the fact that may get some element if child on DLA. Also discussed some of the local facilities like Cinema in Malton which is generally very helpful when taking children with noise, or sensory issues, not just when offering ASD friendly viewings, arising out of a discussion around recreation grants.
