This is a half-day (morning) course for parent/carers of children, teenagers and adults with learning disabilities who are experiencing difficulties with their child/young adult's sleep.
The course is only open to parent/carers in the Wokingham Borough Council area
Content of the course:
- Understand the importance of sleep for the whole family's health and wellbeing.
- Understand the reasons behind sleep difficulties and why they are more common in children and young adults with learning difficulties.
- Learn new parenting strategies for settling your child to sleep, and staying asleep. And new strategies for encouraging your young adult to sleep well.
- 1:1 time with a Specialist Sleep Practitioner to write a Sleep Plan for your family.
The course will be delivered by two experienced Sleep Practitioners from Parenting Special Children. In addition to Southampton NHS Specialist Sleep training, the Sleep Practitioners have professional backgrounds in Learning Disability Nursing and Social Care.
The Sleep course will be delivered at the Earley Crescent Resource Centre, Warbler Drive, Reading, RG6 4HB.
There is no charge for this course. Places on the course have been funded by the Wokingham Learning Disability Partnership Board.
